| Rationale | The checkout module should be flexible and adaptable to the needs and wishes of both buyers and sellers. It should be able to present buyers with a different set of payment options depending on a range of parameters (preferences and constraints), set by the platform operator and/or merchant and/or consumers (hence the required flexibility and adaptability towards the buyer) These parameters could include: * Subscription or pay-per-use; * The type of subscription or pay-per-use; * Amount to be paid; * Preferences of the merchant (only those payment methods that are accepted by the seller, possibly based on a dynamic range of criteria); * Consumer profile (only those payment methods the user has access to and not those the user has stated he is not willing to use); * Country (not all payment methods are available everywhere); * Network and/or terminal (only payment methods available over this type of network and/or terminal); * Etc. Offering a range of payment options introduces a trade-off between ease-of-use on the one hand and the choice between payment systems on the other hand. Both should be considered. The use of a consumer billing profile and merchant billing profile that dynamically defines the payment options available in a certain context based upon preferences of both sides could offer a solution for this trade-off. |
