DescriptionOffering content generated by end users has a large potential towards the future, but also implies that some functionalities will have to be provided on the platform to allow for such content to be created and deployed.
RationaleAlthough many of the content and services on the SPICE platform will initially come from professional or semi-professional providers, end users will also want to be able to spread their contributions over the platform. Users have become accustomed to podcasts and vodcasts from individual creators and increasingly also start to create own content. Evolutions in technology (such as digital cameras in mobile phones, mobile television displays, etc.) will only increase the amount of this type of content. Revenue streams originating from user-generated content could even become an important source of revenues.User-generated content however also creates aspects that have to be tackled by the platform. The platform should provide tools and functionalities for a rapid creation and deployment of content and services, as well as functionalities to access this content in a comprehensive manner, especially in a one-to-many setting. New ways for representing information, such as blogging or user-programmable EPGs could provide solutions for these issues.
